Central Embassy & Central Chidlom celebrate Thai New Year- ‘A Sense of Thai 2019’

The hottest month of the year is here, and it is time for all Thais to celebrate Songkran, the Thai new year. Central Embassy and Central Chidlom, the world-class shopping destinations in the heart of Bangkok, are ready to get into the spirit of the holiday and celebrate with ‘A Sense of Thai’, bringing the joy, fun, culture and smiles that Thailand is famous for from 4th – 21st April, 2019.

 

There is plenty to experience and enjoy at Central Embassy. Explore our Land of Smiles, Level G with mechanical elephant rides in our Elephant Village, with donations going to the Asian Elephant Foundation of Thailand. Get dressed up in traditional Thai dress and relax in the Baan Thai pavilion for perfect photos; browse through our Bangkok Bazaar market with wonderful souvenirs, and then stop by Thai Town with plenty of activities for all, such as elephant tattoos, elephant keychain making and palm leaf weaving. Plus, there are special activities & performances on 4th & 12th – 16th April such as steamed cupcake decorating, making Look Choup and sweet layer cakes, as our main stage plays host to traditional Thai dances at 2, 4 & 6pm. And then make sure to begin the Thai New Year with blessings, by bathing Buddha, brought specially from Wat Phanan Choeng, a famous Ayutthaya temple, for this beautiful ceremony.

While moving up through Central Embassy, enjoy our spectacular Bangkok Lantern Festival, all the way from Level G to Level 3, with a special light show for the first 10 minutes, every hour, every day.

At The Balcony, Level 2, 9th – 12th April, is the Thai Heritage Market with luxury summer Thai products

on offer from Heritage Fine Art & Jewelry. Also, take the chance to join in a Thai traditional perfume workshop, and cool off with a free herbal ice pop.

The 10th – 17th April is home to the Sabai Jai Market on Level 5, with over 30 stalls of contemporary Thai gifts, with live music 13th – 16th April at 1, 3 & 5pm. And Songkran @ OPEN HOUSE offers special Songkran menus at all of their restaurants, with a 100.- Open House Voucher when you spend 800.- at the Open House eateries. There will also be workshops for everyone 12th – 16th April, with the kids making herbal inhalers and veggie printing, and the adults making aromatherapy oils. Feast well at the Eathai Songkran Fest at Eathai, Level LG, with refreshing local delicacies at the Eathai Floating Market. Stay cool with the limited-time Royal Thai dish ‘Khao Chae’. Join in the Thai garland making workshops and enjoy the special Thai performances while eating.

 

 

 

 

Step from Central Embassy, through our Summer Breeze Passage, made up of a forest of thousands of flying kites at the 2nd floor Central Link, into the festivities at Central Chidlom, which are 12th – 16th

April. On the 1st floor, pay respects to the nine Buddha poses by bathing him in this traditional ceremony. Then enjoy our Songkran workshops, making garlands and herbal inhalers, 13th – 15th April. At THAITHAI, 2nd floor, get your cameras out while you dress up in traditional Thai costumes for the perfect snaps. Moving up to the 3rd floor, will give you the chance to watch special Khon performances from local school students 13th & 14th April at 11am, 1 & 3pm, plus contemporary Thai dance performances at 12, 2 & 4pm on 13th – 15th April. Then chill out from the summer heat at FoodLoft, 7th floor from 1st – 30th April, with special ice-cold slushies such as Marian Plum, Coconut & Pineapple & Salacca in Syrup.

 

The ZEN Event Arena, Level 1 at ZEN will hold bathing ceremonies for a Buddha statue from the famous Wat Suthat. Then enjoy Muay Thai performances at 12, 2 & 4pm and classic Thai Puppetry at 1, 3 & 5pm, all from 12th – 16th April.
